Compress a PDF to the size you need.
Shrink a PDF to the limit an upload form sets. Best for scans and photos in a PDF: pages are re-drawn as pictures, so text can no longer be selected.
1 How small?
File size
The file will be at or below this.
Need MB? 1 MB is 1,000 KB.

What it does
- Choose your PDF and the limit: a maximum, a target, or an allowed range.
- We re-draw each page as a picture, starting sharp and stepping down quality and pixels only until the whole file fits.
- We re-read the finished PDF and show its pages and size against your limit.
Examples
| You enter | You get |
|---|---|
| Scanned certificate, 4 MB, maximum 500 KB | A PDF of the same pages, a few hundred KB, still readable when zoomed. |
| A PDF already under the limit | Returned exactly as it was. |
If it isn’t working
- I can’t select or copy the text any more.
- Compression here turns each page into a picture. If the portal needs searchable text, keep the original and ask whether a larger limit is allowed.
- It says it is still over the limit.
- Many pages or a very small limit can be impossible without making the text unreadable. Split the document, or raise the limit.
- It says the PDF is password-protected.
- Remove the password in the program that made it, then try again. We cannot open locked files.
- The result is not smaller.
- Some PDFs are already well compressed. Try a lower limit.
