How to Prepare a Photo for an Online Application

The tool takes care of the numbers: pixel size, KB range and format. Pose, background and whether the photo meets the official rules stay your call.

Two different jobs

  1. Software jobs: the pixel size, the file size range and the format. The tool does these and re-checks the result.
  2. Your jobs: pose, expression, background, lighting and whether the photo meets the official rules. The tool doesn’t judge these, and it makes no claim that a photo will pass a passport or visa check.

Taking the photo

  • Use a plain, light wall and even light (a window in front of you works).
  • Keep your head and shoulders square to the camera, with no shadows or glare on your face.
  • The tool doesn’t remove or replace backgrounds, so the real background has to be right.

Fitting it

  1. Open Application Photo Resizer.
  2. Pick a size: the verified IBPS photograph, a common size, or your own.
  3. Position the box with the head-and-shoulders guide. Where your browser can find a face we start there; most browsers don’t have face detection, so drag the box until the head sits inside the guide.
  4. Run it. The tool resizes and compresses, then re-checks the finished file against the size you chose.

A real example

IBPS CRP 2026-27, as read on 7 October 2026: JPG of 20 to 50 KB, with 200 × 230 pixels as the preferred size, a recent passport-style colour photo with a light, preferably white, background and the face clearly visible. Pixel sizes are marked “preferred”; the file size and type are what the form enforces. Check the current notification for your exam.

Converting a printed size to pixels

If a form gives millimetres and a DPI, use pixels = mm ÷ 25.4 × DPI. For example, 35 × 45 mm at 300 DPI is 413 × 531 pixels. That’s a common size, but we don’t claim any particular authority accepts it. See DPI vs pixel dimensions.

Problems

  • The background isn’t white. Retake it against a plain, light wall.
  • The face wasn’t found. Drag the box into place.
  • It won’t fit the KB range. See how to compress an image to 50KB for how pixels and KB interact, or let KB + Dimensions do both together.
