How to Resize a Signature for an Online Application
Most signature uploads fail at the photo, not the resize. Start from a large, dark signature on plain white paper; fitting it to the form's pixel size and KB range is the easy part.
Photograph it well first
Most signature problems start with the photo. Sign larger than you think you need, with a dark pen on plain white paper, and photograph it straight on in daylight. At small output sizes, such as 140 × 60 pixels, a small or light signature breaks up into dots.
What the tool does
- Finds the ink and ignores paper edges, shadows and ruled lines. You can drag the box if it picks the wrong area.
- Evens out the lighting, whitens the paper and darkens the ink without changing its colour.
- Fits it to your size on a white canvas, scaled evenly and never stretched.
- Aims for the middle of your KB range, then re-reads the finished file to check every rule.
If you feed it something that looks like a photograph rather than a signature on paper, it warns you before and after, instead of saying “ready”.
Steps
- Open Signature Resizer.
- Pick a verified preset, enter your form’s size, or paste its rules.
- Add the photo, check the box around the ink, and run it.
- Download the result, and check it against the rules.
If the photo is messy, clean it first with the Signature Cleaner and send it across; see how to clean the background of a scanned signature.
Two real examples with different shapes
- IBPS (CRP 2026-27, as read on 7 October 2026): JPG, 10 to 20 KB, with 140 × 60 pixels as the preferred size, signed in black ink on white paper and not in capital letters. Pixel sizes are marked “preferred”; the file size and type are what the form enforces.
- SSC (Stenographer 2026 notice): JPG, 10 to 20 KB, about 6 cm × 2 cm. SSC gives the size in centimetres only, not pixels, so you choose the pixel size. At 200 DPI that is about 472 × 157.
The shapes differ: IBPS is roughly 2.3:1 and SSC roughly 3:1. A signature that fills one will look small in the other, which is why fitting evenly on a white canvas matters. Always check the current notice for your exam; requirements change.
If it doesn’t pass
- Too light for a minimum KB. A plain white image can be lighter than a form’s minimum. See how to reduce a signature file size in KB, which also covers that case.
- It looks thin after shrinking. Re-sign larger with a darker pen.
- It picked the wrong area. Drag the box so it surrounds only the signature.
Finally, check the file with the Image Requirement Checker before submitting.
